Former Bafana Bafana star gives life to Christ

Mashudu Malema | 19 April 2017

It’s not everyday that we hear of soccer stars surrendering their lives to God. But that’s exactly the case with former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs footballer Bernard Parker. The star has taken a literal leap of faith by getting baptised into the Catholic faith.

The star was baptised and confirmed as the newest member of the Catholic faith over the weekend in a religious ceremony attended, by family and friends.

Parker’s wife, former reality star Wendy Parker shared a sweet message to her husband on Instagram, welcoming him to the Catholic faith.

Bernard is said to have met all the requirements and attended baptismal classes on a weekly basis.

Although Bernard is said to have always attended church, his work commitments meant that he wasn’t always able to attend all the required classes needed for him  to qualify to be baptised.

Bernard and Wendy first got married back in 2012 in Kwa-Zulu Natal, in a ceremony attended by 170 guests. But the Catholic church did not recognize their union since Bernard was not a member of  the faith. Eager to be recognised as man and wife in the eyes of the chruch, Parker and his wife got remarried by a Catholic priest after his baptism.

A “perfect marriage” is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other on his weakest days I am his strength and when I am weak he is my strength we take turns keeping it together with God the almighty as our protector 💕❤️️👌Wendy gushed on her Instagram.
