Former world number one, Serena Williams had us all clutching our pearls when she made her surprise pregnancy announcement on Snapchat a couple of days ago.
Williams, who’s highly regarded for her athletic feats, has won both the Wimbledon and the Australian Open seven times – she’s also been world No 1 for 316 weeks in total which ranks her third overall in the Open era.
The athlete revealed that she is 20-weeks pregnant with her first child with fiance, Alexis Ohanian. Ohanian, 33, is a tech entrepreneur and best-selling author from the US. He boasts two degrees from the University of Virginia – but is most famous for co-founding social news website Reddit at the age of 22 – along with partner and fellow Virginia graduate Steve Huffman.
The athlete’s announcement quelled suspisions around her dropping out of tennis tournaments over the last few months. Just last month, the athlete pulled out of the Indian Wells and Miami Open citing a knee injury. Fans were quick to work out that Williams was actually pregnant during her 23rd grand slam win in Melbourne in January this year.
Fans have also pointed out that both Serena and rumoured ex-boyfriend, Drake are allegedly both expecting their first born children. Just last year Drake and Serena were a thing, however the notorious playboy is said to have been caught cheating on the tennis star, who later called it quits. The couple constantly hinted at their rumoured relationship but never officially confirmed it.
If you’re wondering when we’ll be seeing Ms Williams on the court again; the tennis superstar will not play again in 2017 but will return to the tour in 2018, her spokeswoman said.
