How Sibongile Sambo started her own airline
South African business woman Sibongile Sambo was rejected from being a flight attendant. But in spite of this, she then started her very own airline company.
Her dream was to work for the South African Airways, but came short with the minimum height requirements in order to become a flight attendant. Sambo is currently working on her Masters of Science Degree in Management of Technology and Innovation in Aviation.
Sambo is now the founder and owner of SRS aviation which provides personalised services including such as helicopter, tourist and VVIP flights to destinations around the globe.

Sambo in an interview with CNN mentioned that flying in the sky is not just work, but her passion. “I’m where I am today because somebody invested in me,” she says. “It’s my opportunity now to invest in other people.”
It is reported that SRS aviation is a entirely made up of female black employees.
To reach this goal was never easy, without experience and capital, Sambo had to sell her car and use up some of her mother’s pension money in order to start her own aviation company. She says that she is proud to have penetrated in a male-dominated industry. SRS aviation is partnered with MCC Aviation, which assists her company with technical support.
According to CCN, Sambo was commissioned by the South African government for her first flight in 2004.
11 years later, SRS Aviation received an Air Operating Certificate by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), permitting it to operate commercial flying activities, and has assisted three women get their private pilot licenses, CCN reported.
Sambo’s aviation company is based in Johannesburg and with her flights reaching the United States and Germany.
Sambo said that aviation is growing in Africa, “we are going to grow with the growth in Africa., the sky is not a limit.”
